FAQ

I have heard that taking supplements is a waste of money. It just creates ‘expensive urine.’ Is this true?

No. If you take supplements for a specific purpose or health benefit, take them in the recommended dosage, and take them regularly, you are more likely to receive the purported benefits. To say that supplements just creates expensive urine ignores the science of basic physiology. Our body metabolises the nutrients in the supplements and then excretes ‘metabolised’ end products. It’s the same process when we eat food. Our body digests the nutrients from food and then excretes the end product via our stool.

It is essential that the supplement you take has scientific research to support its efficacy. In Australia, to make health claims on the label of a supplement there must be research to support the claims and the product must provide the exact dosage that is used in the research. This means that the product will have an AUST L number on the label, which means it is registered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). If the product you are considering makes health claims on the label but does not have an AUST L number, then it may be an inferior product and you should consider an alternative.

All BCN Health products that make health claims on their label are TGA-registered and have an AUST L number.

Is there research actually showing that your products work?

All BCN Health products are ‘evidence-based’. This means the formulations are created as a result of scientific research. If the science doesn’t support the benefits of a certain ingredient, then it won’t be contained in a BCN Health product.

How can I be sure that what you say is in the capsules, is in the capsules?

One of the TGA requirements for obtaining an AUST L number is ensuring the product is tested every 3-6 months and the level of each ingredient does not fall more than 5% of the label amount.

Where do you source your ingredients from?

At BCN Health we pride ourselves on having the highest quality ingredients in all our products. We search the globe for suppliers who can provide the best-quality ingredients we require, ideally with scientific research to support the efficacy of the ingredient. For example, our Rhodiola is sourced from Germany, and our saffron, from Spain.

Why has BCN Health specialised in mental wellbeing?

Mental health problems are causing substantial disability in Australia. In fact, research confirms that depression causes more disability than other health condition. As a result, we at BCN Health have identified ‘mental wellbeing’ as a niche that few companies have entered. Also, we employ the services of experts who have exceptional knowledge about nutraceuticals for mental wellbeing.

Are your products safe to take?

Yes. We have selected ingredients and designed our products to have a high level of safety. In fact, most of our products are even safe to take with pharmaceutical medications.

Can I take more than the recommended dosage?

Yes. It may be possible, but always check with your healthcare practitioner first. However, keep in mind that more is not necessarily better.

Can I take the BCN Health products in combination?

Yes. If you have multiple health conditions that would benefit from BCN Health products, ie. low mood and stress, then it might be worthwhile taking multiple BCN Health products.

Can I take BCN Health products if I am using medications?

Most of the BCN Health products have been designed to ensure there is no interactions with medications. However, we recommend you consult with your medical practitioner first.

How can I get access to the research the BCN Health products are based on?

Simply send an email to: info@bcnhealth.com.au and request a copy of the research papers that have been published on the ingredients contained within the product you are interested in.

Why hasn’t my doctor recommended these products to me?

Unfortunately, many doctors receive very little training in nutrition and almost none on the topic of supplementation. Therefore, many doctors simply don’t know about the benefits that can be obtained through correct supplementation practices.

How long do the products take to work?

The length of time it takes for a product to work depends on the product itself and the severity of the condition. For example, for people suffering with the symptoms of mild anxiety, relief can be obtained within 20-30 minutes after taking 200mg of theanine. However, other ingredients such as saffron may take 1-2 weeks to improve mood.

What else can I do to help me overcome my condition?

There are many additional strategies you can employ to help improve your mental wellbeing. Supplementation is just one component of a myriad of options, and the more strategies you employ, the better results you are likely to experience. Some of the additional strategies include making changes to your diet, physical activity, and sleeping patterns, as well as avoiding potentially harmful behaviours such as smoking, drinking excessively, or taking drugs. Also, making changes to unhealthy relationships, focusing on healthy and pleasurable interests, and learning appropriate ways to manage difficult emotions can also improve your mental wellbeing.
